IYC Interests:Encourage interest of young people in chemistry
Generate enthusiasm for the creative future of chemistry
I am a high school science teacher in a bilingual education school. I teach laboratory science to students from 6th grade through the four years of high school as well as presenting theory classes to the high school students. I am also the organizer of the school's annual Science Fair, where several students typically present chemistry-related projects.
This year, our school placed special emphasis on water conservation. Our students became involved in a recycling investigation or fair. Several students plan on presenting their research at the Google International Science Fair.
As a teacher, I want to encourage my students to get interested in science, not only in chemistry, but also in biology and physics. Several of the classes will study chemistry during this portion of the year, so they will be working with chemical reactions and mixtures. The IYC emphasis on water projects fits in well with the curriculum outlined for this year.
