I was born on the 11th of November, 1965 at Buguma City in the ASARI-TORU local Government area of Rivers State, Nigeria. I attended Baptist State School Buguma from 1970 – 1976, Kalabari National College from 1976 – 1981 and gained admission into the University of Port Harcourt to study Chemistry in 1982 and graduated with a Second Class Honours Degree in Chemistry in 1986. I served Nigeria in 1987 in the National Youth Service Corp where I taught Chemistry in An-Warul Islam High School in Iseyin, Oyo State. Immediately after the National service, I gained admission to pursue a Master of Science and PhD degrees. In 1989, I obtained an MSc degree in Analytical Chemistry and in 1992 a PhD degree in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Port Harcourt. My Ph D thesis was based on the impact of industrial activities on the baseline levels of heavy metal pollution in the New Calabar River, Nigeria. In 1992, I was employed as a lecturer in the same department. In 1994, I was granted a World Bank Staff development fellowship for my post – doctoral research fellowship at the Loughborough University, Leices, England where I worked with the World’s foremost inorganic chemist - Dr. J. D. Lee and Dr Tony Edmunds were I studied the effect of storage on the formation of biogenic amines in wines brewed in Nigeria. Since I returned to Nigeria in 1995, I have been a career academic, teaching Analytical and Environmental chemistry at the University of Port Harcourt and researching on heavy metal speciation in environmental compartments, nutritional qualities of non-edible seeds and fruits and conversion and optimization of agro - wastes into raw materials for organic and inorganic contaminant remediation. I was appointed Editor of the Journal of Applied Sciences & Environmental Management by the World Bank assisted National Agricultural Research Group in 1998. A journal, which I have managed as Editor for over a decade and it has gained an International status. Because of my expertise in the area of environment, I was appointed the Special Assistant to the Hon. Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources, in Rivers State, Nigeria in 1999 where I served the Rivers State Government in the newly created ministry. I was appointed Senior Lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt in 2000 and promoted to Associate Professors in March 2006. In 2004 – 2005, I was a visiting senior lecturer at the Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria. In April, 2005, I was appointed external examiner to assess the Ph D Thesis of Dr L Govindarajan at the Annamalai University, Annamalainagar, India. I am a reviewer to several national and international journals. I was a TWAS-UNESCO fellow for three years where I spent three months at the National University of La Plata, La Plata, Argentina and worked with Prof. Dr. Jose. L. Vicente on Gas Phase Adsorption. I have previously attracted International Research Grants to the University of Port Harcourt from the International Foundation for Science (IFS), Sweden in partnership with Inter-Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management (INWRDAM) and Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) in 2004 and 2006. I have served as a consultant to the International Foundation for Science I Africa. I have also served the University of Port Harcourt in several capacities including Head of Department of Pure & Industrial Chemistry between November 2008 and March 2010, Editorial Member of PhD Theses Abstract and Member of Curriculum Review Committee of Science Laboratory Technology Programme (SLTP) for upgrading to the Institute of Science Laboratory and Technology (ISLT).

Speifically, I want to attend the IYC 2011 conference in January. Therefore kindly send me an invitation letter. I will be at the University of Aberdeen in February 2011.
