About:

I am a Reader in Supramolecular Chemistry at the University of Bathand have published over 120 publications, including one book, 7 book chapters and 119 papers in international peer reviewed journals. I am also the named inventor on 16 international patents. I have developed a broad interdisciplinary approach to research, with an underpinning focus on the development of modular saccharide sensors where he has pioneered a range of reporting regimes. In particular his glucose specific sensors have attracted interest and support from a number of companies including Glysure, Beckman-Coulter, Unipath, Gilden Photonics and Smart Holograms. I am also a co-founder of the Catalysis and Sensing for our Environment (CASE) network.

During the IYC I am particularly interested in publicizing the contributions that chemistry has made to improve lives, particularly recent developments in chemical research about the importance of Chemistry for our Environment and for Health. I am also interested in involving all levels of students, from preschool children to university students, with chemistry.

Towards that end I am organising a Symposium in Bath on Catalysis and Sensors or Health (CASH) from 31st January 2011 to 2nd February 2011. The Symposium is free for delegates from academic and charitable organisations
