About:

I was trained as a synthetic organic chemist at the University of Oslo where I obtained the PhD in 1978. After two years as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Canada, I returned to Norway and taught at the Un iversity of Tromsø (in the Arctic) for 13 years before moving to the present position as professor in Bergen. I has written many chemistry textbooks for high-school students and made television programmes about chemistry for the general public. I have also had the pleasure of serving as President of the Norwegian Chemical Society and IUPAC President (2004/05).
