    Description
    It is one of Denmark's oldest university and the largest, with a total of 43,600 enrolled students as of 1 January 2012, after a fusion with Aarhus School of Engineering. Denmark's first professor of sociology was a member of the faculty of Aarhus University (Theodor Geiger, from 1938–1952),and in 1997 Professor Jens Christian Skou earned the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery of the sodium-potassium pump. In 2010 Dale T. Mortensen, a Niels Bohr Visiting Professor at Aarhus University, accepted the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences together with his colleagues Peter Diamond and Christopher Pissarides.

    Chemistry Department Information
    The Department of Chemistry is the most successful of all the departments at Science and Technology, Aarhus University. The department houses a number of the Danish National Research Foundation’s Centres of Excellence, and carries out teaching tasks for many of the degree programmes at the faculty. Made up of a wide range of scientific areas, the department is expected to be a very strong partner in interdisciplinary initiatives in future, especially regarding the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Centre (iNANO).
